Mark Batterson is a visionary pastor and prolific author whose leadership and voice have impacted millions around the globe. He currently serves as Lead Visionary (Lead Pastor) of National Community Church (NCC) in Washington, D.C., a multi-campus, theater-based church recognized for innovation, cultural engagement, and Kingdom entrepreneurship.
A gifted storyteller and communicator, Mark is the author of 25 books (as of 2025), including the New York Times bestseller The Circle Maker. His writing spans devotionals, leadership works, children’s titles, and books on spiritual formation such as Whisper, Win the Day, and A Million Little Miracles.
Mark holds a Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) degree from Regent University and has two master’s degrees from Trinity Evangelical Divinity School. His educational journey also includes undergraduate study at Central Bible College after a scholarship stint at the University of Chicago.
Under Mark’s leadership, NCC has launched and operated Kingdom enterprises such as Ebenezers Coffeehouse, The Miracle Theatre, the DC Dream Center, and Capital Turnaround (a mixed-use redevelopment in D.C.). These initiatives intertwine community transformation with creative ministry strategy.
Mark and his wife, Lora, live on Capitol Hill, Washington, D.C., and they have three children: Parker, Summer, and Josiah.
