Our culture talks constantly about “legacy,” but the life of Gerald R. Ford reminds us that faithful service matters more than reputation. Scripture never tells us to build a legacy—it tells us to be strong and do the work. When we focus on daily obedience, attention to details, and honoring God instead of ourselves, any legacy that follows belongs to Him. Are we building something for our name, or for His glory?
I’ve often wrestled with where to draw the line between doing something for myself and doing it for God. It’s not always obvious—especially when personal fulfillment and obedience can look similar on the surface. I’ve had to ask myself hard questions about my motives: Would I still do this if no one noticed? If I didn’t receive credit? For me, the difference usually comes down to humility and surrender—am I seeking recognition, or am I genuinely offering my work back to Him? It’s an ongoing heart check, not a one-time decision.
