A Fresh Look at People
“People judge by outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” — 1 Samuel 16:7
We live in a world of instant opinions. Headlines, social media, sound bites, and brief encounters often tempt us to form conclusions about people before we truly understand them. Yet wisdom—and godly legacy—requires something deeper: patient observation, compassionate listening, and discerning perspective.
In his Uncommon Life Daily Challenge, Tony Dungy reflects on how football coaches study game film from multiple camera angles before making evaluations. One perspective alone can be misleading. What appears obvious from the sideline may look entirely different from the end zone view.
Life is much the same.
A person who seems distant may be carrying deep wounds. Someone who appears proud may actually be insecure. A hesitant faith may reflect past disappointments rather than indifference toward God. Mature people of faith resist snap judgments because they understand that every life has a story.
One of the great marks of significance is learning to see others not merely through the lens of our experiences, assumptions, or emotions—but through the eyes of Christ. Legacy-minded people are careful observers before they are quick critics. They seek understanding before rendering conclusions.
Success may evaluate performance. Significance values people.
As we build a Faith Legacy, we must remember: relationships are strengthened when grace tempers judgment, when patience overcomes assumption, and when wisdom pauses long enough to truly see another person’s heart.
Legacy Challenge
Before forming an opinion about someone today, pause and ask:
Do I know the full story?
Have I listened carefully?
Am I seeing this person through God’s eyes or merely my own perspective?
